Boston Terrier Training

Boston Terrier training can be hard if you are impatient or it can be simple when you take the time.
Consistency is the key to Boston Terrier training. Your dog will respond best when he learns to anticipate your requests.
When your Boston Terrier has learned something new and you have rewarded him for it, he will want to do it over and over to please you.
When you are satisfied with your Boston Terriers training, take time to switch it around and come back to it later. This will help train your Boston Terrier.

All Dogs Know What Sit Means

Melissa has been trying to train her little Riley. She is absolutely sure that she doesn't need to go to obedience training because as she puts it She is smarter than any Boston Terrier dog.
This morning when I went over for coffee she was trying to demonstrate her prowess. Sit, she commanded Riley. Riley stood there. Sit, she said a little louder. Riley stood there. Sit, she yelled at the top of her lungs. Riley stood there. I tried not to laugh. I don't get it, she said. Why won't he sit? All dogs know the word sit.
I think it is a common misconception that new dog owners have that dogs should already come preloaded with the basic command words already known. Sit, Stand, Heal, Stay. The dogs know them right? Sure and we humans know exactly what Ruff, Quack, Moo, and Heehaw all mean too, right? Yelling won't make us understand it any better - and yelling sure won't do anything to help Riley learn either. The stress of failing to please his master will just make it all that much worse.
Melissa clearly needs to sign Riley up for training classes so they can both learn what the commands mean to the other. Melissa clearly needs a bit of perspective on the whole raising a new puppy thing.

When choosing a vet for your Boston Terrier, there are some things you can do to help in making your decision. By doing just a few things, you can be happy with the vet you choose.
The easiest thing to do is use the vet you use for other pets if you have them. If not, ask a friend. There are vets that do great work and really care. So check around and see who uses who.
You can visit different vets offices and just feel the atmosphere.
Keep an eye on your dog. You will notice that your dog's body language will tell you a lot.

Melissa Needs A Breeder And A Pup!

Mike's sister, Melissa, stopped by this morning on her way home from the gym and met my sweet little baby. Mike has been talking about the puppy non-stop, you would think he was a child, and not just our puppy. However, Melissa loved the little charmer, and immediately picked him up to cuddle and coo at him. The puppy, of course, in typical puppy style was having none of that and immediately started squirming to break free. The battle of wills was on. The puppy won though, when he licked Melissa across the cheek. She just couldn't manage to hang on to him with one hand as she wiped her face off with the other.
Melissa wants a puppy. She says it like she is ordering a pair of shoes from Macy's or something. Somehow I just can't picture her following this super-sized bundle of energy around the block at 6 o'clock in the morning in rain, sleet or snow. It just seems, how do I put it? Oh yeah, out of her character.
We called the puppy's breeders to see if they would have any pups left, but they do not and won't be having any more for a while. So, Melissa has agreed to contact the AKC for other possibilities.
I mentioned all the things Mike had told me, like checking their pedigrees, and their living conditions. Melissa agreed to not just buy from anyone, she will hold out for a breeder with ethics. She promised!

Male Or Female Boston Terrier

My son had been begging for a puppy for almost as long as e could speak. My wife and I decided that we would surprise him with one for his birthday.
After extensively researching breeds, we agreed that a Boston Terrier puppy would make an excellent addition to our family. What my wife and I could not agree on was whether to get a male or female puppy.
While researching we found advantages and disadvantages to both. We were hard-pressed to make a decision as our son's birthday was fast approaching.
After visiting the breeder, we fell in love with a beautiful puppy and brought her home. We brought her little brother home too, to keep her company.
